okay uh welcome here what i have is y equals negative log base five of x plus one minus three so we have a lot of different transformations here right so im gonna wanna write these down thats always the first thing i like to do when i have multiple transformations so i have my function be multiplied by negative so therefore thats going to tell me to reflect the x-axis i also have an x plus 1 so im adding inside the function so thats 4 thats going to uh or inside my equation i just say so therefore thats going to shift one unit left and then i have a minus three thats going to tell me to shift my graph down three okay so we have a lot of different transformations and you can do these on your own it kind of really depends on how you know comfortable you feel with graphing and applying your transformations what i always like to do again as i as i go back through this is just creating our parent graph first and then applying our transformations so we can apply our transformations i

We know that the inverse of a log function is an exponential. So, we know that the inverse of f(x) = log subb(x) is f^-1(y) = b^y.
A common technique for handling negative values is to add a constant value to the data prior to applying the log transform. The transformation is therefore log(Y+a) where a is the constant. Some people like to choose a so that min(Y+a) is a very small positive number (like 0.001). Others choose a so that min(Y+a) = 1.
A linear scale plots data points using a unique unit value to give an equal vertical distance between values. On the other hand, a logarithmic chart scaling plots using percentage change as the distance between data points.
Bottom line: A logarithmic axis can only plot positive values. There simply is no way to put negative values or zero on a logarithmic axis.
The logarithm of a negative number is obtained by multiplying its magnitude with -1.
The Difference Between Linear and Logarithmic Charts On a linear chart, each unit change is treated exactly the same. The change from $1 to $2 looks the same from $10 to $11. On a logarithmic chart, each percentage change is treated the same.
The inverse of a logarithmic function is an exponential function. When you graph both the logarithmic function and its inverse, and you also graph the line y = x, you will note that the graphs of the logarithmic function and the exponential function are mirror images of one another with respect to the line y = x.
exponential functions and logarithmic functions are both one-to-one. functions, so both have inverse functions. The inverse of an exponential. function is a logarithmic function, and the inverse of a logarithmic. function is an exponential function.
