Another way to look at it is this, a bouncer at a nightclub with a list of people allowed in is an example of Implicit Deny. Anyone not falling into that allowed list is denied entry.
Inwhen you are running traffic coming INTO the interface through an ACL. Outwhen you are running traffic leaving the interface through an ACL. If you want to filter packets that is coming in, you want to use the in; and if you want to filter packets that is coming out then you use the out.
any packet entering to interface is considered as inbound by ACL. any packet leaving out of interface is considered as outbound by ACL.
Explicit deny is a security concept where specific actions or access attempts are prohibited even if not explicitly allowed. It explicitly denies access to a user, process, or resource.
The explicit deny is when the administrator has selected the Deny option for a permission for a user or group. This Deny takes precedence over all allowed settings. The administrator has explicitly set the permission, and there is no way around it.
When deny is used in the ACL rule, the system discards packets when traffic matches the ACL rule, and the action in the traffic behavior does not take effect (except traffic statistics collection and traffic mirroring actions).
An explicit deny rule disallows any traffic through the firewall that isnt explicitly (specifically created rule) set. So if you allow port 80 traffic to enter the host or network (explicit allow rule), implicit deny will prevent all other traffic that isnt destined for port 80.
ACL number for the standard ACLs has to be between 199 and 13001999. Once the access list is created, it needs to be applied to an interface. You do that by using the ip access-group ACLNUMBER in|out interface subcommand. in and out keywords specify in which direction you are activating the ACL.
