Note all the keywords (or parts of keywords) that are irrelevant to your campaign. For example, if you own a premium shoe store, you might find irrelevant search terms like cheap shoes, outlet shoes, or second hand shoes. These are all potential negative keywords.
Symbols in negative keywords You can use 3 symbols in your negative keywords: ampersands (), accent marks (), and asterisks (*). Negative keywords with accent marks are considered 2 different negative keywords, like sidewalk cafe and sidewalk caf.
Negative broad match This type is the default for your negative keywords.
Create a negative keyword list In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon . Click the Audiences, keywords, and content drop down in the section menu. Click Negative search keywords at the top. Click the plus button .
From your Google search terms report: Click the Keywords tab. Select the checkbox next to the keyword you want to run the search report for, and click the Search Terms button. Select any irrelevant search terms and click Add as negative keyword:
A keyword setting that allows you to exclude your ad for searches that include the exact keyword phrase. Searches may include additional words, and the ad wont show as long as the keywords are included in the search in the same order. Example.
Negative keywords can be added either at a campaign level or ad group level. Campaign level means you want to avoid any searches containing this specific keyword across your campaigns whereas ad group level means you want to avoid your ads being shown for negative keywords in a specific ad group.
