[Music] the question is at what age I think you mentioned there was as early as 21 we should be getting past but how often are we getting that right so going back to age 21 a lot of the recommendations have changed over the years so Im giving the American College of ob-gyn recommendations theres different organizations that have different recommendations but we used to say a certain number of years after he became sexually active but now pretty much thats the standard age 21 if you started having sex really young we used to say 3 years afterwards but it doesnt matter our least are denying sex the risk of cervical cancer is so low but before the age of 21 that thats when people should get there first pap smear if you do it before then youre just increasing the number of extra testing that they need to do and its traumatizing for those young girls so thats why we say 21 Im just gonna put chastity belts on my children and were gonna call it a day now results of an abnormal pap c

Women aged 70-74 should have an exit Cervical Screening Test. If HPV is not detected, the risk of developing cervical cancer is very low and you can stop having Cervical Screening Tests.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that all women between the ages of 21 and 65 should get regular Pap smears tests. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) do not recommend Pap smears for people under the age of 21.
After age 65, you can stop having cervical cancer screenings if you have never had abnormal cervical cells or cervical cancer, and youve had two or three negative screening tests in a row, depending on the type of test.
Women need gynecological care at every stage of life, doctors say. After menopause, they should still see a doctor annually and make sure the doctor gives them an annual pelvic exam.
Lowering the age The reason for this is that evidence has shown that screening women under the age of 25 can lead to many unnecessary and harmful investigations and treatments. Cervical cancer is extremely rare in under-25s.
If youve had a series of normal screening test results over a long period of time, then you can stop screening at age 65. If, in the past, you had an abnormal result or anything suspicious on a screening test, or had treatment for cervical cancer or precancer, then you should continue to be screened.
The reason we dont do Pap tests before age 21 is because the likelihood of someone that young getting cervical cancer is very low. After age 65, the likelihood of having an abnormal Pap test also is low.
Women over 65 may hear conflicting medical advice about getting a Pap smear the screening test for cervical cancer. Current medical guidelines say the test is not necessary after age 65 if your results have been normal for several years.
Unfortunately, you can still get cervical cancer when you are older than 65 years. The only way to know it is safe to stop being tested after age 65 is if you have had several tests in a row that didnt find cancer within the previous 10 years, including at least one in the previous five years.
A normal (or negative) result means that no cell changes were found on your cervix. This is good news. But you still need to get Pap tests in the future. New cell changes can still form on your cervix. Your doctor may tell you that you can wait three years for your next screening test if you received a Pap test only.
