When there are more pages than one in a letter it is normal practice to put nothing at the end of the first page. Since there is no closing line or signature it is obvious that there is another page, so Dixie would say it is quite logical. Subsequent pages do not contain the letterhead and are printed on plain paper.
Second Pages If a letter extends on to a second, third, etc. page, the second and following pages have a one inch top margin and a header at the top that is left-aligned. That header includes the name of the person receiving the letter, the date, and the page number (in that order, on separate lines).
By convention, the letterhead of a business letter is the first printed item. Furthermore, there if there is no signature at the bottom of the first page, then it is quite obvious to the reader that the page is not the end of the letter.
2. Which of these must be avoided in business letters? Explanation: Words which are non-standard or usage of slang must be avoided. Abbreviations constitutes non- standard usage.
The proper place for the letterhead, therefore, is in the document header. Any text you put in a header appears on every page of the document, and you wont want the letterhead on your second sheets.
Use a plain piece of paper, of the same quality as the letterhead, for the second page (dont use the letterhead). The second page of a letter is referred to as a continuation page.
If a letter requires more than one page, make sure there are at least two lines of body text on the final page. Never use an entire page for just the closing. The second page and all subsequent pages must include a heading with the recipients name, the date, and the page number.
The second-page header format you choose is up to you, but it should always include at least the full name of the person to whom the letter is written. The second-page header can also include the page number and the date of the letter.
