Can you add a word to an existing trademark?

As a matter of fact, it is not possible to add any extra elements (written or visual) to a pending or registered trademark. If you decide to change your brand logo by adding an additional element, it is advisable to submit a new application with the new version of the mark that is currently in use.

Under federal law, you can file a trademark amendment application if your requested change does not materially alter the character of the mark.
