The Transaction Coordinator is a module running within each Kafka broker. The transaction log is an internal Kafka topic. Each Transaction Coordinator has a transaction log for the partitions it leads. The first operation done by the producer is producer.
A compacted topic consists of a head and a tail: The head is a traditional Apache Kafka topic where new records are appended. The head can contain duplicated keys. The tail contains one record per key. Apache Kafka compaction ensures that keys are unique in the tail.
By default, each Kafka topic partition log will start at a minimum size of 20MB and grow to a maximum size of 100MB on disk before a new log file is created.
Log compaction is enabled by setting the cleanup policy, which is a broker level setting. You can override this setting at the topic level. Enable log cleaning on a topic, add the log-specific property, either at topic creation time or using the alter command.
A broker stores a replica of a partition and said replica is simply a bunch of files on the filesystem. A Kafka Log Segment is a file on the filesystem containing data of a Kafka partition. At any given time, there is only one active segment. The active segment is the one where new records are written to.
Kafka stores its log files in folders organized by topics and partitions. The index files help it map messages against offset and timestamps, enabling quick retrieval.
Kafka stores messages in an ordered data structure called logs. These are not like the traditional logs you might be familiar with. Instead, Kafka logs are named structures that hold records in an immutable manner, distributed across servers. These named structures are called Topics.
Initialize the project. mkdir change-topic-partitions-replicas cd change-topic-partitions-replicas. Get Confluent Platform. Create the original topic. Describe the original topic. Describe the new topic. Write your statements to a file.
