Iamp;#39;m going to show you how you can change the Windows Event Viewer log size enabling you to keep logs for longer Iamp;#39;m doing this on Windows Server however this will work exactly the same on Windows workstations so to start if you press the start menu and search for Event Viewer and then run that this will take you to the Event Viewer Management console on the left hand side we can expand Windows logs as well as applications and services logs to see all of our Windows event logs to modify a size of any of these event logs we can right click one of them and then go to properties and under maximum log size we can see the maximum size that this event log is allowed to grow to this value is in kilobytes so this current value of 20480 is around 20 megab so if we wanted to increase it in size we can just press the up Arrow or we can just type a new value in so if I want to increase it from 20 megab to 40 megab I can do 4960 and then press apply and now the system log is able to

Control transaction log file growth To change the current file size in KB, MB, GB, and TB units, use the SIZE option. To change the growth increment, use the FILEGROWTH option. To control the maximum size of a log file in KB, MB, GB, and TB units or to set growth to UNLIMITED, use the MAXSIZE option.
Use the ALTER DATABASE (Transact-SQL) File and Filegroup options statement to manage the growth of a transaction log file. Note the following: To change the current file size in KB, MB, GB, and TB units, use the SIZE option. To change the growth increment, use the FILEGROWTH option.
To set the maximum event log size, access Event Viewer properties and adjust the Maximum Log Size value in Windows.
Solution. On a target computer (client or server), navigate to Start (Windows) Administrative Tools Event Viewer. Navigate to Event Viewer tree Windows Logs, right-click e.g. Application and select Properties. In the following Log properties window you should be able to change the maximum log size.
Large database transactions, such as importing large amounts of data, can lead to a large transaction log file. Transaction log backups not happening fast enough causes the SQL log file to become huge. SQL log files also enlarge due to incomplete replication or availability group synchronization.
Truncate the transaction log Right-click the database and select Properties - Options. Set the recovery model to Simple and exit the menu. Right-click the database again and select Tasks - Shrink - Files. Change the type to Log . Under Shrink action, select Reorganize pages before releasing unused space and click OK.

Traditionally, increasing an event logs size involved navigating through the Event Viewer GUI, right-clicking the desired log, selecting Properties, and then adjusting the size.
