And, while strong, this tissue can overstretch or tear fairly easily. Unlike other tissue in the body, the ACL ligament doesnt have a blood supply. That means the ACL cant heal on its own when damaged. As a result, some ACL injuries require surgery to provide the best recovery outcomes.
Stretching Exercises These exercises target muscles, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves, contributing to knee stiffness post-ACL surgery. Stretching exercises that can help with knee stiffness include side leg raise, hamstring stretch, and quadriceps stretch.
Anthropometric data with respect to height, weight, and sex can help to predict the dimension of tendons for ACL reconstruction and do correlate with ACL tendon. Patients at risk for small graft dimensions and failure are younger than 20 years and physically active.
Spraining, over-stretching or tearing your anterior cruciate ligament is one of the most common knee injuries, especially if youre an athlete who plays a sport like soccer, football or basketball. The ACL provides stability to your knee, making it one of the knees most crucial ligaments.
Heating parts of the partially torn ACL causes them to shrink. This tightens the ligament and allows it to better stabilize the joint. Thermal shrinkage is done during an arthroscopic procedure. A long, thin, lighted tube called an arthroscope is inserted into the knee joint and used to see and operate inside the knee.
This is one of the bands of tissue that holds the bones together within your knee. It also helps to keep your knee stable. You can stretch or tear your ACL if you make a sudden movement or quick, sharp turn when youre running or jumping.
