hello world welcome back to another imaginary CTF 2024 writeup video in this video weamp;#39;ll be walking through the crypto challenge base 64 letamp;#39;s get into it yet another B 64 decoding challenge okay so I have the files that give you downloaded over here letamp;#39;s go ahead and open this in code okay you have a main.py source code and an out.txt file with the secret key scanning through this main.py script we see that we have a Q being assigned the value 64 and then itamp;#39;s opening the flag file and then converting the flag to a long integer then itamp;#39;s initializing the secret key list and then itamp;#39;s looping through our flag integer and then itamp;#39;s appending to the secret key the flag integer mod Q so the remainder of the flag integer divided by q and then it floor divides the flag integer by q and then it assigns the flag integer to the quotient of that operation so itamp;#39;s clear that we need to reverse this so what Iamp;#39;m going

The Illegal Base64 Data error typically occurs when the data under the data field in our YAML file is not correctly encoded in base64. This can happen for several reasons: The data was not encoded using the correct base64 encoding tool or command. The encoded data includes invalid characters.
Kubernetes Secrets are, by default, stored unencrypted in the API servers underlying data store (etcd). Anyone with API access can retrieve or modify a Secret, and so can anyone with access to etcd.
Assuming the error uses hexadecimal numbers, then character 22 is , which means it attempted to decode something enclosed in double quotes as base64, while a double quote is not a valid base64 character.
Kubernetes Secrets use base64 encoding to ensure that secret values are stored and transmitted in a safe, human-readable format. In this YAML manifest: - `apiVersion` specifies the Kubernetes API version for secrets.
You can check if the secret was successfully created by using the kubectl get secrets command. You can then view the secrets details using the kubectl describe secret db-user-pass command.
This error happens when the string that you are trying to transform contains a character not recognized by the basic Base 64 Alphabet (in this case it was an underscore character).
Base64 is not a security function, but rather a way to store any data, including binary, in Kubernetes manifests. The main advantage of Kubernetes Secrets is that they are separate entities from an RBAC perspective.
Threat actors often disguise malicious scripts in email attachments or share documents infected with malware. One particularly elusive approach is to use Base64 encoding to hide malicious code within HTML content. This article details Base64 encoding as a technique to obfuscate HTML smuggled payloads.
