An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a master image for the creation of virtual servers -- known as EC2 instances -- in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment. The machine images are like templates that are configured with an operating system and other software that determine the user's operating environment.
Update AMI Navigate to AWS Console –> Services –> EC2 –> Auto Scaling –> Launch Configurations. Select a LC –> Copy launch configuration. Click Edit AMI. Click Create launch configuration.
To edit an instance's configuration Stop the instance, if it is not already stopped. On the Instances page, click an instance name to display the Details page. Click Edit to display the edit page. Edit the instance's configuration, as appropriate.
You cannot update the AMI on your current instance. You should create a new instance with the CentOS AMI.
An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a template that contains a software configuration (for example, an operating system, an application server, and applications). From an AMI, you launch an instance, which is a copy of the AMI running as a virtual server in the cloud.
Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) are the technology that enables the creation of Amazon EC2 instances in AWS. An AMI is essentially a pre-configured template for configuring an Amazon EC2 instance in a certain way.
Create an AMI from an Amazon EC2 Instance Right-click the instance you want to use as the basis for your AMI, and choose Create Image from the context menu. Create Image context menu. In the Create Image dialog box, type a unique name and description, and then choose Create Image.
AWS provides updated and fully-patched Windows AMIs within five business days of Microsoft's patch Tuesday (the second Tuesday of each month). The AWS Windows AMIs contain the latest security updates available at the time they were created.
Click the instance ID of the instance you want to edit. On the Instance details page, click Edit to go to the Edit instance page. Change the instance description, IP-based access control rules, and capacity as needed. For details, see Creating instances.
To create an AMI from a snapshot using the console Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/ . In the navigation pane, choose Snapshots. Select the snapshot from which to create the AMI, and then choose Actions, Create image from snapshot. For Image name, enter a descriptive name for the image.
