How do I change the company name on my USDOT registration? Submit a ticket through our website at ask.fmcsa.dot.gov (scroll to the bottom of the page, complete the required fields, and upload your documents). Fax the form to 202-366-3477 or 606-330-3802. Mail the form using the instructions provided on the form.

Transferring your MC starts with notifying the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) about the change in ownership. This step is crucial as it ensures that the new owner can legally operate under your MC number and that you are no longer responsible for the authority.
USDOT numbers are not transferable and are assigned to only one person and remain assigned to that person forever. A person includes an individual, corporation, partnership, or other business organization as authorized by state law. Each separate and distinct person must have separate registration.
There are several ways to update your company information with the FMCSA (there is no charge for USDOT number updates): Online: You can update your USDOT number company information on the Licensing and Insurance (LI) web site by filing an MCS-150 (Motor Carrier Identification Report).
Answer: Complete an MCS-150 form ensuring that all applicable items are filled out. Select Biennial Update or Changes as the Reason for Filing on the top of the form. In the blank space at the top of the form, indicate the Entity type you need (i.e., Change Entity type to Motor Carrier)
Failure to complete a Biennial Update will result in deactivation of your USDOT number and may result in civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day, not to exceed $10,000. Updating your information is free.
