Does macOS Ventura support AFP?

Ventura dropped support for AFP and make it difficult to enable any sort of filesharing at all. In order to get the built-in samba server to work properly, you have to add a manual security exception for it using the command line.

Is SMB better than AFP?

So for the best performance, and 100% compatibility, AFP should be used. AFP provides the most compatible sharing with the Mac file system (HFS+). At present, other Mac protocols including NFS and SMB offer only a fraction of the performance and have limited compatibility.

How do I edit an AFP file?

Click on the added file in your document list to open it in editing mode. Use the toolbar above the document sheet to add all the edits. Finish your editing by keeping the file in your documents, downloading it on your computer, or sending it via DocHub without switching tabs.

Is AFP obsolete?

AFP is Apples own protocol which was originally developed for Classic macOS, and has been widely supported by networked devices including storage such as NAS. But its use has now been deprecated for six years, since OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

Is Apple deprecating AFP?

Starting from macOS 11.0 Big Sur, Apple no longer supports AFP servers. As such, using AFP to connect to Synology NAS may pose increased security risks for clients and result in the inability to obtain technical support from Apple.

Is AFP discontinued?

As of Mac OS 11 Big Sur, support for both AFP and AppleTalk have been completely removed from the operating system.
