In the Contents pane, right-click Legend and click Ungroup. In the Contents pane, under Drawing Order, click the desired legend items to open the Element pane. In the Element pane, click the Placement tab. Under Size, change the Width and Height of the legend item to the preferred size.
In the Contents pane, expand the legend to see the legend items. Right-click a legend item and choose Properties to open the Element pane. Check Only show features visible in the map extent. Only include the item if it is within the map frame extent.
If you want the layout elements and text to resize automatically, check Resize Elements. Select a new layout size from the drop-down list. Optionally, choose Custom page size to open the Layout Properties dialog box and create a custom size. The layout adjusts to be the new size.
Select one or more legend items to modify in the Contents pane. Right-click the selected item or items and choose Properties to open the Element pane. Adjust the legend item properties in the Element pane.
To change the shape of the layers legend patch, follow these steps: Highlight a feature layer by clicking its title in the Contents pane. On the Feature Layer tab, in the Drawing group, click the Symbology button . In the Symbology pane, on the Primary symbology tab. Select a legend patch shape from the menu.
Select one or more legend items to modify in the Contents pane. Right-click the selected item or items and choose Properties to open the Element pane. Adjust the legend item properties in the Element pane. If you have multiple legend items selected, only properties common to all the selected legend items are available.
In Table Of Contents, click the point symbol under the name of the copied layer to open the Symbol Selector dialog box. Adjust the point size in the Symbol Selector dialog box ingly to display the desired point symbol size in the legend. For more information, refer to ArcMap: A quick tour of symbol and styles.
