Research subjects have had a longstanding right to revoke their consent to participate in research. In addition, the Privacy Rule permits a subject to revoke permission for researchers to use or disclose his or her identifiable information for research.
Under the Privacy Rule, individuals have the right to have a covered entity amend their PHI in a designated record set, as defined in 164.501, for as long as the entity maintains the records.
