Google Docs: Apply and Modify Heading Styles Select the text you want to apply a heading style to. Select the style menu, located between the zoom menu and the font menu. Select the appropriate heading level for your text. Learn more about heading levels.
Tip: You can change the font and formatting of a heading style. Just select the heading text you want to customize, modify its styles the way you want, and then on the Home tab, in the Styles group, right-click the heading style that you customized and click Update Heading to Match Selection.
Edit your existing headers and footers Double-click the header or footer you want to edit, or select Header or Footer, and then select Edit Header or Edit Footer. Add or change text for the header or footer or do any of the following: When youre done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.
Use different headers or footers per page or section Click a header or footer. To choose your header and footer layout, check the box: Different first page: Use different headers and footers on the first page of the document or section.
You can use a standard option in Google Docs to apply the new format to all similar styles, e.g. to all headings: Right-click the text with the style you want to alter in the document, e.g. Heading 1. Pick Format options Select all matching text. This way you automatically select all occurrences of Heading 1.
Make a title or heading On your computer, open a document in Google Docs. Select the text you want to change. Click Format. Paragraph styles. Click a text style: Normal text. Title. Subtitle. Heading 1-6. Click Apply text style.
To increase the size of your header on your current document and on all new documents, go to File Page setup and increase your top margin to whatever size you need. Press the blue Set as default button and then press the blue OK button to save your changes.
To use and see headers and footers, make sure your document is in pages format. Open a document in the Google Docs app. Tap Edit . In the top right, tap More . Turn on Print Layout. Tap the header or footer. Type the text you want in your header or footer.
