It can be done using the DataFrame. replace() method. It is used to replace a regex, string, list, series, number, dictionary, etc. from a DataFrame, Values of the DataFrame method are get replaced with another value dynamically.
To update multiple cell values in a Pandas DataFrame, we can use boolean indexing or the . loc accessor method. Boolean indexing allows us to select a subset of the DataFrame based on a condition and update the selected cells.
Updating a Pandas DataFrame Row Once we have located the row, we can update the values of the row using the assignment operator = . We simply need to assign the new values to the row using the column names as keys. In this example, we first create a sample Pandas DataFrame with three columns: Name , Age , and Gender .
Method 1: Using the .replace() method In this example, we created a DataFrame with two columns (A and B). We then used the . replace() method to replace the value foo in column A with the value qux. The inplace=True parameter tells Pandas to modify the DataFrame in place, rather than creating a new copy.
Some common DataFrame manipulation operations are: Adding rows/columns. Removing rows/columns. Renaming rows/columns.
1.0. Deleting index and columns. We can delete particular index or columns by calling drop() function. 2.0. Renaming index and columns. We can alter the index and column names by calling rename() function. 3.0. Reindexing. Reindexing changes the row labels and column labels of a dataframe.
Reshaping a DataFrame can be achieved through several functions including pivot() , melt() , stack() , and unstack() , each serving different reshaping needs: Pivot is used to create a new derived table out of a given one. Melt is used to transform or reshape data from wide format to long format.
Although DataFrames are meant to be populated by reading already organized data from external files, many times you will need to somehow manage and modify already existing columns (and rows) in a DF. Here, I present some of the most commonly used operations for managing columns, including how to: Rename columns.
