How long is the I-901 SEVIS fee valid for?

The fee can be paid only after the I-20 or DS-2019 form has been issued. The fee must be paid prior to the visa interview. It is wise to have at least a three-day gap in between fee payment and the visa appointment. Payment of the fee is valid in the SEVIS database for a maximum of 12 months.

What is the purpose of the SEVIS fee?

The I-901 SEVIS Fee is mandated by Congress to support the program office and the automated system that keeps track of students and exchange visitors and ensures that they maintain their status while in the United States.

Are SEVIS fee and visa fee the same?

The SEVIS fee is separate from the visa application fee (DS-160 fee) or fees payable to USCIS for an application to request a change of status. The SEVIS fee can be paid online or by mail. It can be paid by you, or by a third party such as a friend, family member, or other interested party.

Is the I-901 fee refundable?

The SEVIS fee will not be refunded. However, if you reapply for a new F-1 visa within 12 months of the denial, you will not have to pay the fee again.

Will USCIS fees increase in 2024?

The new prices are set to take effect April 1, 2024, meaning all applications postmarked after this date will be charged the new, higher costs. This increase has substantial implications, particularly for family-based immigration applications, among the most affected categories.

Can SEVIS fee be transferred?
