The difference between umask and chmod is that umask changes the default permissions and thus the permissions for all newly created files and folders, while chmod sets permissions for files and folders that already exist.
#sudo setfacl -Rbk Here -R recursively, -b remove all permissions for user/groups -k remove default acl (mask). By issuing this command it will remove the plus (+) sign seen on the ls output, but it will not remove the dot (.) sign from the ls output. #setfattr -x security.
Main Differences chmod changes permissions of existing files and directories. setfacl modifies access control lists to define detailed access rights for multiple users and groups. Flexibility: chmod and setfacl offer more flexibility for changing permissions after file creation.
It is used to configure the permission on one file or more than one file based on user type(user, group, other). we can assign multiple users for the same file. As we have the advantage of setfacl, we can assign permission on multiple files and directories at the same time.
(dot) suffix indicates an SELinux context is present. Details may be listed with the command ls -Z. @ suffix indicates extended file attributes are present. ing to the Filesystem permissions wiki page, the dot indicates a SELinux context is present.
The two important command-line tools for managing ACLs are setfacl and getfacl . These commands are used to create or change ACLs, and to read the contents of an ACL, respectively.
Heres the basic difference between the two: For any share point or shared folder or file, POSIX permissions allow you to set permissions only for the Owner, one Group, and Others. ACLs give you the additional option to set permissions for multiple individuals and multiple groups for a shared item.
