every home has a breathing apparatus the way that its taking in air and breathing out air even if you dont have a central duct system for conditioning you still have things like exhaust ducts hopefully so lets talk about our central duct system you need a way to get air to the equipment which is called a return and you need ways to get the conditioned air from the equipment into the rooms which are called supplies first thing to understand is that all this stuff needs to be designed in a computer normally not necessarily just on a scratch of paper essentially what you need to do is figure out exactly how many btus and cfm you need to deliver to each room in the house which we have done then i had someone do the duct design for me and make a map of exactly how big each duck needed to be exactly how long it should be how many elbows its going to be expected to take because of course every little turn and downsizing i add to these ducks if im trying to squeeze it through little space
