In Linux terminals, the code to format text may differ. On the one hand, we can use the SGR (Select Graphic Rendition) parameters of ANSI escape codes, a standard cross-language way of encoding color and format data.
How Do You Indent All Lines of Code? Open your file in Vim by typing vim filename. Press Esc to enter command mode. Type gg=G and press Enter. gg moves the cursor to the beginning of the file. =G re-indents all lines from the top to the bottom of the file.
First-line indent by default Put the cursor anywhere in the paragraph. On the Home tab, right-click the Normal style, and choose Modify. Select Format, and then choose Paragraph. On the Indents and Spacing tab, under Indentation, select First line. Select OK. Select OK again.
I dont know about auto-formatting existing code, but if you are writing code and need auto indent: :set autoindent (or :set ai ) will turn on auto-indent. Ctrl - d to un-indent (AKA outdent) your code. Tab or spaces to indent -- I personally use tab.
It is to be used in normal mode (if unsure, type ESC). gg means go to line 1, = is the indent command, and G moves the cursor to the end of file, giving the command the range it needs, which is the whole file. It wont prettify a compact JavaScript or HTML file, though.
If we carefully look at the formatted script, well notice that the indentation is 8 spaces by default. The number that we used after the -i option indicates the number of spaces that we want to use for indentation. Clearly, the indentation is performed with the help of 4 spaces.
To indent the current line, or a visual block: ctrl-t, ctrl-d - indent current line forward, backwards (insert mode) visual or - indent block by sw (repeat with . )
