A revision ACL reconstruction is a second surgery needed to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. ACL revision surgery is a more challenging operation for the orthopedic surgeon than a primary reconstruction.
You can stretch or tear your ACL if you make a sudden movement or quick, sharp turn when youre running or jumping. Its often painful, and can make it hard to walk or put pressure on the injured leg.
Spraining, over-stretching or tearing your anterior cruciate ligament is one of the most common knee injuries, especially if youre an athlete who plays a sport like soccer, football or basketball. The ACL provides stability to your knee, making it one of the knees most crucial ligaments.
After an ACL reconstruction, up to 14% of patients go on to suffer a graft rupture, an ACL re-rupture [8]. Several risk factors for suffering an ACL re-rupture have been identified, including younger age, high activity level, female sex, and the use of allograft [9,10,11].
Symptoms A loud pop or a popping sensation in the knee. Severe pain and inability to continue activity. Rapid swelling. Loss of range of motion. A feeling of instability or giving way with weight bearing.
At the time of the injury, a pop or snap can sometimes be felt or heard. The amount of pain experienced at the time of the injury is somewhat variable but can be quite severe. Typically, the person is unable to continue play or activity, and has the impression that a docHub injury has occurred.
In general, there are three main graft options: a patellar tendon autograft, a hamstring autograft, and an allograft. An autograft comes from the patients own body, whereas an allograft comes from a cadaver donor. An allograft can come from patellar tendon, hamstring tendon, achilles and other ankle tendons.
Symptoms of an ACL injury This is often combined with pain and swelling. You could experience grinding feelings of your bones or kneecap. Another sign is not being able to put weight on your leg. People with a mild ACL injury might feel like their knee is unstable, or like it might give out when they are using it.
