How to Edit Automatic Closed Captions on YouTube Step One On the screen displaying the video click CC below the video box. Step Two Click the option called English (automatic) on the right of the screen. Step Three Click edit on the bottom right hand of the screen, and then click Overwrite. Step Four You can now view and edit the captions generated by YouTube based on the audio of your video. Make timing and visual adjustments to the captions by changing their length and positioning them to match the audio in the video. Step Five Click Publish on the bottom right corner of the screen.
