If you dont see any caption roles, it means you havent yet added captions to your project. See Create captions in Final Cut Pro for Mac. Do one of the following: Show or hide all captions in the timeline: Click the Show Captions button on the right side of the main Captions bar.
In the Final Cut Pro timeline, position the playhead where you want a caption to appear. Choose Edit Captions Add Caption (or press Option-C, or Control-Option-C if the caption editor is already open). A new caption clip appears at the top of the timeline (in a dedicated caption lane), and the caption editor opens.
You can change the style and formatting of caption text using the inspector. The CEA-608, iTT, and SRT caption standards have varying specifications for text, placement, color, transitions, and so on.
Import captions directly into a project in the timeline Open an existing project in the Final Cut Pro timeline. Choose File Import Captions. In the dialog that appears, navigate to the file you want to import, and select the file. The file must be a valid CEA-608, iTT, or SRT caption file.
You can edit the text of your captions directly in the timeline using the caption editor, or you can enter changes in the inspector. In Final Cut Pro, do one of the following: Double-click a caption in the timeline or the timeline index (or select it and press Control-Shift-C).
Once youve added at least one caption to your document you should see a new style displayed on the style gallery called Caption. To change the formatting of your captions throughout your document simply right-click that style on the gallery and choose Modify.
Open the project in the Final Cut Pro timeline, then choose File Export Captions. In the Save As field, type a name for the exported caption file.
