The Redis ACL, short for Access Control List, is the feature that allows certain connections to be limited in terms of the commands that can be executed and the keys that can be accessed. The way it works is that, after connecting, a client is required to provide a username and a valid password to authenticate.
ACL categories: @admin , @slow , @dangerous. The command shows the currently active ACL rules in the Redis server. Each line in the returned array defines a different user, and the format is the same used in the redis.
Key ACL rules To specify which keys are accessible, use the key permissions syntax. Whereas, this ACL rule only allows access to keys prefixed with cache: ~cache:* Starting with Redis 7.0, key patterns can also be used to define how a command is able to read or write a key.
An access control list (ACL) contains rules that grant or deny access to certain digital environments. There are two types of ACLs: Filesystem ACLs━filter access to files and/or directories. Filesystem ACLs tell operating systems which users can access the system, and what privileges the users are allowed.
Syntax: To find the sequence number of the ACE you want to delete, use show run or show access-list name-str |1-99|100-199 to view the ACL. Use ip access-list to enter the Named-ACL ( nacl ) context of the ACE. In the Named-ACL context, type no and enter the sequence number of the ACE you want to delete.
In the Redis ACLs tab, you define named permissions for specific Redis commands, keys, and pub/sub channels. In the Roles tab, you create roles. Each role consists of a set of permissions for one or more Redis Cloud databases. Finally, in the Users tab, you create users and assign each user a role.
The ACL SETUSER command takes the username and a list of ACL rules to apply to the user. However the above example did not specify any rule at all. This will just create the user if it did not exist, using the defaults for new users. If the user already exists, the command above will do nothing at all.
Types of access control lists Standard ACLs block or allow an entire protocol suite using source IP addresses. Extended ACLs block or allow network traffic based on a more differentiated set of characteristics that includes source and destination IP addresses and port numbers, as opposed to just source address.
