Paid time off (PTO) is one of the most common benefits employers offer. In fact, its something employees expect. Theres been a growing trend among employers to bundle PTO by combining sick and vacation time (called flex PTO) for employees to use as they please.
Even though PTO can only be used for its stated purposes, some companies in California permit combining sick leave and vacation leave policies, essentially allowing employees to use paid sick time for any reason.
PTO days. The difference between personal days and PTO days is that PTO, also called paid time off, has a more broad meaning and is typically used for vacations or sick leave. In contrast, personal days imply sickness or other matters that require time off from work.
A personal day is, technically, not a vacation day, and its not taken when youre home with the flu. It may be used for a medical procedure, a moving day, or a day to visit your ailing grandmother.
