Cameron McKenzie discusses the concept of the release branch in Git Flow. He explains that upon initializing Git Flow, users have a master branch and a develop branch, where development occurs. After featuring the project, developers create a release branch to prepare for the final product, halting additional feature additions. During this phase, last-minute testing may reveal bugs that require fixing, which can be done through topic branches created from the release branch that are later merged back into it. Finally, the release branch is merged into both the master and develop branches for deployment and future development continuity.
