Today, Im going to show you how to use one job offer to get another and this happens all the time. Youre interviewing for jobs and then all of a sudden, you get an offer from a company, but its not the one you want. You want the offer from the other company who hasnt made a decision yet. And the dilemma is if you dont take this offer, you might not get the offer from the other company and then you end up with nothing and nobody wants that. Now, if that were me and I wasnt working and I had an opportunity to take a job versus nothing, I would definitely take the job and I have done that in the past. What you want to do is use your current offer as leverage to force the hand of another employer. And so heres how this works. You have to call them on the phone. You cant just e-mail it. Do not e-mail them and say, Hey, I have another job offer. Would you consider moving forward now? No, you have to talk to them. And its important that you talk to them on the phone, so that you c

While it may be considered the ethical choice to stick with your the original job offer, you have every right to take back your acceptance if youre hired as an at-will employee. If you signed a contract, check the fine print to look for stipulations about rescinding your acceptance.
Yes. Technically, anyone can turn down a job offer, back out of a job already started, or renege on an acceptance at any point. Most states operate with what is called at will employment. This means the employee and the employer are not in a binding contract.
Be honest Its perfectly OK to tell the company thats offering you a job that youre waiting on another offer to come in. You can say something like: This seems like a great opportunity and I am thrilled to receive the offer.
Example: Dear (contact name), I am extremely grateful for the offer you presented to me earlier. I am excited about this opportunity to work for your company. In order to properly analyse your offer, I would like to politely request some more time to look over the contract in order to process the information provided.
docHub out to your main point of contact at the company usually the hiring manager or the internal recruiter responsible for filling the position and explain that you have another offer on the table, but if the folks at Company B and you can come to an agreement, youd really prefer to join their team.
Accepting an Offer and Continuing to Interview is a Bad Idea With a few limitations in certain states, all states are formally recognized as at-will employment states, meaning you can resign from a job at any time. (The employer can also let you go at any time.)
Prepare to share the news with your team Review some change management principles. Be authentic. Be clear. Explain why the role is going unfilled. Break the employee workload into specialized categories. Assign work based on your team members strengths. Consider the ideal span of control for each team member.
Ask for time to decide Then you can ask for up to one week to consider the offer. Gauge the recruiters reaction. Some companies wont want to wait that long because the market is so competitive, and the company will want to know if it needs to move to a backup candidate or start the search all over again.
