Users of GitLab Premium and higher tiers can create additional approval rules.Add an approval rule Go to your project and select Settings General. Expand Merge request (MR) approvals, and then select Add approval rule. Add a human-readable Rule name. Set the number of required approvals in Approvals required.
Merge request approvals Enforcing review of all code that gets merged into a repository. Specifying code maintainers for an entire repository. Specifying reviewers for a given proposed code change. Specifying categories of reviewers, such as BE, FE, QA, DB, etc., for all proposed code changes.
Approving a pull request with required reviews Under your repository name, click Pull requests. In the list of pull requests, click the pull request youd like to review. On the pull request, click Files changed. Review the changes in the pull request, and optionally, comment on specific lines.
A closed merge request is one that has been put aside or considered irrelevant. It is therefore not merged into the code base. Therefore, you only merge MRs when youre happy with the changes and close them if you think the changes are not worthy of being integrated into the code base ever.
No need for git commit --amend : you can make a new commit, explaining why those changes are introduced, and push. That will update the current MR (Merge Request in GitLab parlor). Every time you push to a branch that is tied to a merge request, a new version of merge request diff is created.
Revise a merge request If you need to update a merge request (for example in response to a request from the review shifter), simply push to the same branch again after editing (and testing) the files.
After the merge request has been merged, use the Revert button to revert the changes introduced by that merge request. After you click that button, a modal appears where you can choose to revert the changes directly into the selected branch or you can opt to create a new merge request with the revert changes.
For the given merge request, if the required number of approvals has been met (i.e., the number of approvals given to the merge request is greater or equal than the required number), then the merge request is unblocked and can be merged.
