A closed merge request is one that has been put aside or considered irrelevant. It is therefore not merged into the code base. Therefore, you only merge MRs when youre happy with the changes and close them if you think the changes are not worthy of being integrated into the code base ever.
Approving a pull request with required reviews Under your repository name, click Pull requests. In the list of pull requests, click the pull request youd like to review. On the pull request, click Files changed. Review the changes in the pull request, and optionally, comment on specific lines.
For the given merge request, if the required number of approvals has been met (i.e., the number of approvals given to the merge request is greater or equal than the required number), then the merge request is unblocked and can be merged.
A merge request (MR) is a request from someone to merge in code from one branch to another. You can create a MR from Assembla by clicking on New Merge Request, which is in almost all of git sub-tabs. Youll be asked to select a From branch and a To branch.
In a pull request, you propose that changes youve made on a head branch should be merged into a base branch. By default, any pull request can be merged at any time, unless the head branch is in conflict with the base branch.
A developer must log into the GitLab web application and create a merge request, specify the branch theyre working on as the source and the master branch as the target. A user with rights to merge or push into the master branch is then set as the assignee before the merge request is initiated.
To do this, in your project go to Settings General Visibility, project features, permissions. In the GitLab premium tier, there are approval rules for merge requests. In the lower tiers, you only have the options given in the point above.
Simply log into the GitLab web app, choose the option to create a GitLab merge request, specify the master branch as the source and the protected branch as the target of the merge. The merge request can be used to have GitLab merge master in a branch that is protected.
Pull/Merge requests are created if you are working in a feature branch and wants to merge your change in main branch(eg. Master branch). The merge requests serves as a code review tool and if your code reveals shortcomings/issues anyone(usually other developers) can commit and push a fix.
The Maintainer Gives Approval: If there are no further edits needed, the maintainer approves the request. The Updates Are Merged with the Main Project Repository: Once the repository maintainer approves the request, the developers new updates in the forked repository get merged with the main project repository.
