The letter must outline why you would be a good doctor, your professional strengths, your passion for medicine, and any other memorable skills and characteristics that make you stand out. For example, if a physician observed your excellent interactions with patients, this should be mentioned in the letter.
Some word processors or PDF editors will also allow you to digitally sign and associate this with some form of cryptographic signature. In short: sign your letter, but do it the easy and electronic way if you can.
A successful letter should avoid: General language or overly broad descriptors of the students performance in the classroom; Focusing on a students punctuality or ability to complete the readings. Too much time and attention detailing the relationship with the student or the content of the course.
What to Include Name and information regarding Medical School Applicant. Date letter was written. Provide an explanation of the relationship. Lists accomplishments of the individual that provides context. Contributions the individual can make to the program. Unique characteristics and credentials. Results of their prior work.
Documents which are likely to be most useful include: A copy of your transcript. A copy of your resume (if you have one), or a list of activities, relevant experiences. A copy of your personal statement/ essay (talking about your strengths, experiences, goals) -- even if its in a very rough form.
What to Include in a Letter of Recommendation Salutation of one line. One paragraph detailing how you know the person and why you are qualified. One paragraph explaining why you recommend the person and details on what theyve done or accomplished. One summary reinforcing that you highly recommend the person.
Email the recommender explaining that you are hoping they might be willing to write you a letter, and inquiring whether they can write you a strong letter of support. Ask if they would be willing to meet you to discuss it further.
Try to include hard skills, such as their ability to check heart rates or administer medication, and soft skills, such as their work ethic. Use specific examples of their job responsibilities or academic performance to best illustrate how they would use their medical knowledge in a work environment or school program.
