subscribe and click the bell icon to turn on notifications sometimes when you import data you might find that excel stores some of the numbers as text and how do we know the difference between cells that contain text and cells that contain values well not only is it fairly obvious by the fact that we have numbers or text but also we can tell based on the alignment in the cell so as a general rule when you have text in a cell so say for example in column b text is always aligned to the left hand side of the cell whereas if you look at some of these other cells that contain numbers so for example the gross sales numbers in general are aligned to the right hand side of the cell so if you come across a situation like we have in column f and if you take a look at this im going to zoom in a little bit you can see here we have a little bit of an issue now most of the numbers in this particular column are aligned to the right hand side of the cell which is correct but some of them are aligne

Choose Format Font Replace Fonts (from the Format menu at the top of the screen). Click the double arrows to the right of the font you want to replace, then choose a replacement. If the font is listed as a missing font, also choose a typeface. Click Replace Fonts.
Create a custom text format In the Format sidebar, click the Cell tab. Click the Data Format pop-up menu, then choose Create Custom Format. Type a name for your format, then click the Type pop-up menu and choose Text. In the text field, type text that you want to appear automatically in each cell that uses this format.
To edit the text, double-click the text box, then click where you want to add the insertion point and type your own text. To delete a text box, select it, then press Delete.
To do this, you can do one of two things: Format the column as Text. Select your data range and press Ctrl+1 to launch the Format Cells dialog. On the Number tab, click Text. Use the apostrophe character. You can type an apostrophe () in front of the number, and Excel will treat it as text.
Format numbers as text Select the cell or range of cells that contains the numbers that you want to format as text. How to select cells or a range. On the Home tab, in the Number group, click the arrow next to the Number Format box, and then click Text.
Change Numbers settings on Mac Choose Numbers Settings (from the Numbers menu at the top of your screen). To see each group of settings, click General, Rulers, or Auto-Correction at the top of the window.
Use Paste Special and Multiply Select the cells that have numbers stored as text. On the Home tab, click Paste Paste Special. Click Multiply, and then click OK. Excel multiplies each cell by 1, and in doing so, converts the text to numbers.
Edit content: Double-click a cell to make the insertion point appear, then type. To move the insertion point, click where you want it, then type. Replace content: Click the cell, then start typing. The existing content is overwritten.
Use vertical text in Numbers on Mac Control-click the object you want to use vertical text. Choose Turn On Vertical Text. If the object already contains text, it becomes vertical and any additional text you add is vertical. To make the text horizontal again, Control-click the object, then choose Turn Off Vertical Text.
If you are familiar with Microsoft Excels formulas, you can convert numbers in cells to text with Text function. If you just only want to convert the number to text without any formatting, you can use the formula: =TEXT(A1,0); 1. In cell E1, please enter the formula =TEXT(A1,0).
