Ensure that everything is in the shipment A packing slip is a reflection of all ordered items and is a record of the physical items included on the shipping lis. As soon as its verified, they can place the printed packing slip in the box and ship the order out.
Returns that do not include a copy of the original invoice, packing slip, or register receipt will not be accepted and will be returned to sender.
A packing slip is also called a waybill, packing list, or shipping list. Its a document that contains essential information about a package, such as a customers name and address. Other information included in a packing list is SKU numbers, weights, dimensions, and the number of items ordered.
A packing slip is a document used to itemize the products in a package. It is placed on the inside of the package for customer reference. Alternatively, a shipping label is placed on the outside of the package and used by the carrier and shipment company to ensure the product is delivered to the destination.
A packing slip is the list of physical goods purchased and shipped, whereas an invoice is the payment order for the purchase made. Packing slips are used to cross-check the items in the package with the purchase order and keep track of the items in case they are lost or damaged.
As already highlighted in the preceding section, a packing slip is prepared by the seller and sent to the place the products are placed in order to have an accurate count of the goods sent. After the tally and packaging have been done, the slip is sent alongside the goods.
The packing list should be included in carton or package, and can be attached to the outside of a package with a copy inside. This document is used by freight forwarders to determine weights and freight costs. Its also used by U.S. and/or foreign customs officials to check the contents of a specific package or carton.
How long do you need to keep packing slips? If you are using it as a receiving document, then you should save it for 7 years, similar to a bill of lading. If youre only using it as a reference to compare whats documented on a separate report, you might not need to keep it. If youre unsure, ask your tax advisor.
