If your illness or disability has got worse since the date of your application and you were refused benefit altogether, you could make a new claim. If you were given some benefit but not as much as you think you should get, you need to ask for your benefit to be reassessed (the proper name for this is a supersession).
Some reconsiderations take two weeks, some take several months. If you have not received your Mandatory Reconsideration Notice, it is a good idea to call the DWP after: 2 weeks to check they have logged your Mandatory Reconsideration. 8 weeks to check how much longer it will take.
The best way to apply for a reconsideration is to use the CRMR1 mandatory reconsideration request form on GOV.UK, or write a letter to the DWP explaining why you disagree with the decision. You can call the DWP to ask for a reconsideration, but its better to have everything in writing.
If your appeal is successful, youll get an official notice in the post within a couple of weeks. Youll receive your new amount of money every 4 weeks. The DWP will also have to pay you everything they should have been paying you from the date of your claim.
Use your form or letter to explain why your application is late, as well as why you disagree with their decision. The DWP can refuse your application if its late, but as long as you applied within 13 months of the date on your decision letter you can still appeal their decision at a tribunal.
If you appeal a PIP decision online, youll be asked if you want to join the track your appeal service. This will send you regular email updates and reminders about your appeal. Youll also get a login, so you can check the progress of your appeal at any time.
The best way to ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration is to write to the DWP at the address on your decision letter. You can use the Mandatory Reconsideration request form or write your request in a letter. You can also ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration over the phone.
99% of SRTI claimants are awarded PIP.
