This video tutorial explains how to create a basic affidavit in Victoria. An affidavit is a legal document used in court and other law-authorized purposes, made by one person in front of an authorized affidavit taker. Different courts and tribunals may have specific format requirements, so it's essential to check their websites before completing your affidavit. Most of the affidavit form can be filled out beforehand, but do not sign it until you are with the authorized affidavit taker. A list of authorized takers can be found at justice.vic.gov.au. In their presence, you must sign or initial any changes, sign each page, and the affidavit taker will also sign or initial changes and each page. If the affidavit references a document, the affidavit taker must attach a certificate identifying it.
