A default value formula provides an initial value for a field. This formula executes when a document is created, and for text fields when the document is saved. The user can change the value in the field except for rich text fields which are not editable. You must specify a default value formula for a text field.
The DefaultValue property specifies text or an expression thats automatically entered in a control or field when a new record is created.
Set a default value Select the field that you want to change. On the General tab, type a value in the Default Value property box. The value you that you can enter depends on the data type that is set for the field. For example, you can type =Date() to insert the current date in a Date/Time field.
Define Default Field Values Begin by creating a custom field; see Create Custom Fields. Choose the type of field to create and click Next. Enter the attributes for the field. Enter a default value or define a formula to calculate the default value. Click Next.
A default value is the value that is automatically assigned to the column when a DataRow is created (for example, the date and time when the DataRow was created. When AutoIncrement is set to true, there can be no default value.
