Applications for building permits are required to be submitted for installations regulated by Section 105.1 of the Florida Building Code if any owner or authorized agent intends to: Construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure.
A state residential building permit is not required for detached garages, sheds, barns or other detached structures that are not used for living purposes. A building permit must be purchased online or at a local Issue Agent. The cost of the building permit is based on the estimated cost of construction.

Locating permit documents and records Records from 2004 and older are not available online and a request should be submitted by email to DS-recordsresearch@hillsboroughcounty.org. The following should be included in the email request: Year property was built, address, any previous addresses, and folio number.
