What should a book press release include? A well-written book press release needs to grab the readers attention, describe what your book is about and why people should read it, and provide basic information about the book for selling and distribution (e.g. title, author, publication date, where to buy).
Consider these five components when drafting your release and youll set yourself up for success. Relevant timing. Compelling headline. Informative lead paragraph. Supporting quotes. Clear call to action.
The first paragraph begins with the five Wswho, what, where, when and whyfollowed by a couple paragraphs providing supporting information and then a boilerplate at the end. The headline must be written so that it basically tells the entire story or purpose of your release.
Now that you know the correct press release format, lets dig into the details of writing a press release. Choose your target audience. Craft an attention-grabbing headline. Add more information with your lead. Include the dateline. Provide the details of your announcement in the body.
In fact its probably the most powerful (if overlooked) new tool at your disposal when composing a press release. Unfortunately, links are seldom used to their potential and they are not always fully supported. One to three hyperlinks should be included in the body section of every release.
5 Golden Rules of Press Releases Develop a strong story. Write a strong first paragraph. Write an attention-grabbing headline subject-line. Do your researchinclude facts and figures. Include strong and memorable quotes.
HearstLab #1. The most important W? #2: The first paragraph matters (a lot). #3: Show, dont tell. #4: Dont forget a boilerplate and a media contact. #5: Optimize for keywords. #6: Be thoughtful about where you distribute your press release. #7: Dont forget to share the press release with your network.
Press Release Format Contact information and For Immediate Release at the top. Title and italicized subheading to summarize the news. News location and news peg in opening line. Two to three paragraphs to add context and additional details. Bulleted facts and/or figures. Company description at the bottom.
