Organizations can use access control lists (ACL) to secure data. One of the major reasons to use access control lists is to restrict unauthorized users from accessing business-sensitive information. It can also be used to control network traffic by limiting the number of users accessing files, systems, and information.
An access control list (ACL) contains rules that grant or deny access to certain digital environments. There are two types of ACLs: Filesystem ACLs━filter access to files and/or directories. Filesystem ACLs tell operating systems which users can access the system, and what privileges the users are allowed.
To Configure ACLs Create a MAC ACL by specifying a name. Create an IP ACL by specifying a number. Add new rules to the ACL. Configure the match criteria for the rules. Apply the ACL to one or more interfaces.
Access control lists are used for controlling permissions to a computer system or computer network. They are used to filter traffic in and out of a specific device. Those devices can be network devices that act as network gateways or endpoint devices that users access directly.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the key ligaments that help stabilize the knee joint. The ACL connects the thighbone (femur) to the shinbone (tibia).
Why should I use Access Control Lists? The primary reason is to provide a basic level of security for the network. ACLs are not as complex and in depth of protection as stateful firewalls, but they do provide protection on higher speed interfaces where line rate speed is important and firewalls may be restrictive.
ACLs can also provide traffic flow control, restrict contents of routing updates, and decide which types of traffic are forwarded or blocked. Normally ACLs reside in a firewall router or in a router connecting two internal networks. You can set up ACLs to control traffic at Layer 2, Layer 3, or Layer 4.
ACLs are not used to group interfaces. To determine the best path to a destination, devices are using routing protocol algorithms and not ACLs, but ACLs can influence what routing information will be available to these algorithms.
Standard ACL You create a standard IP access list by using the access-list numbers ranging from 1–99 or 1300–1999 (expanded range). By using these numbers, you're telling the router that you want to create a standard IP access list, so the router will expect syntax specifying only the source IP address. of networks.
A MAC access control list (ACL) lets you permit or deny WiFi access to individual devices based on their MAC addresses. For example, if you notice a guest device that is using too much bandwidth, you can deny WiFi access to it without affecting other guest devices.
