Quotation marks always come in pairs. Do not open a quotation and fail to close it at the end of the quoted material. Capitalize the first letter of a direct quote when the quoted material is a complete sentence.
Double quote is not a legal URL character and wont pass through most programming libraries and web intermediaries, but single quote is fine.
Links to a web address or email can added to a LaTeX file using the \url command to display the actual link or \href to use a hidden link and show a word/sentence instead. There are two commands in the example that generate a link in the final document: \href{}{Something Linky}
A. Yes, you must put a period at the end of a sentence, even if the sentence ends with a URL (or email address). If its essential that the link be clickable, make sure that the code that determines the hyperlink destination does not include the final period.
In a URL, you represent a single quote with a percent character followed by the two-digit hex code, %27 for single quote character.
A quote is not even a valid URL character, so I think long-term you should address this. It is specifically excluded from the URI syntax by RFC 2396. To solve the immediate problem though, youll need to escape the character, using %22 . If the URL contains a double quote then contain it with single quotes.
I recommend keeping quotation marks outside of the link, unless theyre part of the title of the work. So youd have this: I was reading the story Flowers for Algernon when the doorbell rang. I was paging through the tale All You Zombies when my arm was bitten off.
In HTML, both single quotes and double quotes can be used to surround attribute values, but its important to be consistent in your choice throughout your document. If you use double quotes to surround attribute values, then you should use single quotes within those attribute values to avoid conflicts.
