This can be done by including the photographers name, the title of the photo, and a link to the original source whenever possible. It is also important to respect any copyright or licensing requirements for the image, and to always obtain permission from the photographer before using their work.
To cite a photograph from a digital collection, follow this format: Last name, First name. Title. Date of composition.
In MLA style, the citation of an image will have the following format: Artists name (Last name, First name). Title of Image. Medium (e.g. Photograph). Name of Website.
Tips to Help You Design the Perfect Title First and foremost, a good title is a descriptive one. But, theres a caveat to that! You dont want the title to be too descriptive because thats the job of the photograph. It should be something that, like the photograph itself, sparks interest and draws viewers in.
Title of the photo: Titles are italicized when independent. If part of a larger source add quotation marks and do not italize. Year of creation: Give the year of publication as presented in the source. Name of the museum: Provide the name of the museum, art gallery or exhibition site.
Note that the image title may be in italics instead of quotation marks if the work is a painting or photograph. If the image has no title, you can write a basic description of the image, without quotation marks, in its place.
The classic convention for titling an image is to identify the subject (name the person, place or thing) and add the date of creation: if its a photograph use the date of exposure; if its a painting use the date of completion; if its a composite photograph default to the latter; if its an image of a historic event
In some cases captions and cutlines are distinguished, where the caption is a short (usually one-line) title/explanation for the photo, while the cutline is a longer, prose block under the caption, generally describing the photograph, giving context, or relating it to the article.
