Press release headlines are important because they may influence a potential reader to engage with the story. If the press release headline is interesting, it may encourage the potential reader to invest their time in reading it, otherwise, they may move on to something else.
How do you write a catchy and informative headline for a press release? Keep it short and simple. Focus on the benefits and value. Use keywords and phrases. Avoid hype and exaggeration. Test and tweak your headline. Heres what else to consider.
Have a Good Hook. A well-written nonprofit press release needs to start with a strong opening sentence. Tell A Story. Every good nonprofit press release is, in its own way, a story. Keep It Simple. Keep It Social and Shareable. Add to Your Story. Build Relationships with Journalists. 5 Ws and 1 H. The Inverted Triangle.
Italicize the title of a press release, followed by the description Press release in square brackets (without italics) to aid the reader in understanding the reference type, and finally the retrieval URL is given.
Use title case in the headline only, capitalizing every word except for prepositions and articles of three characters or less. The rest of the news release expounds on the information provided in the lead paragraph.
The anchor text should be as close as possible to what you think a person off the street would be typing in to Google to find your press release. All the major news distribution outlets support hyperlinks. That said, there are some sites that strip the hyperlinks out of your release (turning them to plain text).
Reference list Author, A. A. OR corporate name. ( Year, Month Day). Title - in italics [Press release]. Morrison, S. ( 2021, December 15). A voice for young people on online safety [Press release]. Manchester United. ( 2021, November 17). Manchester United PLC Reports First Quarter Fiscal 2022 Results [Press release].
Include the year, followed by the month and day if available, in parentheses. Youll then add the title of the press release. Remember to italicize it, and only capitalize the first word and proper nouns in the title. After the title, youll add the words Press release in square brackets, followed by a period.
