There is no easy and straightforward way to transfer your pets microchip. We recommend doing the following: Register your pets microchip with your new microchip of choice. Contact the old database and ask them to remove your pets microchip.
Myth #2: Microchips are automatically registered once implanted in your pet. Fact: Just having a microchip isnt enough. Once a microchip is implanted, you must register it in your name and keep your contact information up to date, so you can be notified if your microchipped pet is found and scanned.
Transfer my pet to a new owner Click on Transfer Ownership Input the new owners e-mail address and click OK PetLink will e-mail the new owner and ask for confirmation. PetLink will request a transfer fee of $24.99 from the new owner.
If your pet was previously chipped by another shelter or previous owner- You must contact the microchip company to register your contact information with them. Please be aware that some microchip companies may charge a fee for this service.
The microchip will last your pets lifetime - and with PetLink, there are no monthly or annual fees - EVER. Microchips are passive, meaning that they do not need a battery to work. The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted under your pets skin - like getting an injection.
There are two ways to complete a registered microchip information transfer to a new registrant: Download and complete the Transfer of Registration Form. Attach any ONE of the documents listed on the form. Email your completed documents to the address on the form.
If you are the new keeper of a pet, you can transfer the microchip into your details. You will need the pets microchip number and exact date of birth to transfer the registration online. If you dont know the date of birth, you can ask the previous keeper to start the transfer from within their account.
With accurate registration associated with the unique microchip number, a lost animal can be traced back to its owner as soon as its scanned. In the event of a lost found pet emergency, the PetLink support team is available by phone 24/7/365 at 877-PET-LINK (738-5465).
