Include information such as your current or prospective college major, your professional goals and what potentially receiving the funding means to you. You can use this first paragraph to highlight your understanding of the organization, its expectations and the award.
If you need to include citations or references, follow a standard citation style (such as APA format example, MLA, or Chicago) as per the scholarship guidelines. Ensure that your citations are accurate and formatted correctly.
The MLA recommends using size 12 font, and thats what wed recommend using. As far as the style of the font, you should stick to something that is legible and easy to read. Times New Roman or Arial are both going to be good bets.
That means using 1-inch page margins, 12-point font size double-spaced (or 1.5 spaced), and a standard font like Times New Roman in classic (default) black. Dont get creative with fonts or colors here. You want the content of your essay to be what stands out, rather than your unorthodox formatting.
Scholarship Application Essay Tips Plan ahead. Dont procrastinate! Talk about your accomplishments. Be clear and to the point. State your need. What is your financial situation? Keep it simple. Dont use unnecessary words (i.e., dont use three words when one will do) Make it easy on your reader.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION TIPS Apply, apply, apply! Many students underestimate their chances and some scholarships remain unawarded each year because there are few or no applicants. Be informed. Respect deadlines. Review your documents. Think of it as a job.
The format of a 500-word scholarship essay is similar to a shorter essay. Each paragraph is about 75-125 words, and it consists of 3-5 well-written sentences. If you are writing a story or personal anecdote, the formatting can be more like a novel than a news article. It is ok to use 10% less or more words.
What to include Address the criteria of the award and how the student fulfills them. Emphasize the students strengths. Provide specific anecdotes of things the student has done that are impressive. Use your comments to complement the rest of the application.
