Should all of the product images have a shadow? Definitely not. Ghost mannequin product photos, for example, dont call for a shadow at all, vice versa, they look better without any. Yet, in accessory, bag, cosmetics product photography as well as pinned or hanging product images, shadows will benefit a picture.
In product photography, there are three types of shadows. You will want to consider the kind of shadow that fits your product and the photography lights you have available. The three types of shadows are: natural shadow, drop shadow, and reflection shadow.
How to add a drop shadow to your image. Select it: Open Photoshop and select the layer where you want to add a drop shadow. Click it: Click the FX icon at the bottom of the Layers panel and select Drop Shadow. Customize it: Apply it:
You should shoot directly next to your light source at a 90-degree angle, then reflect that light back onto the subject. This will give your image as much light as possible while also eliminating as much shadow as possible.
The best way to create natural looking shadows is to use a light source while shooting the product. Make sure that the light source, whether daylight or artificial, is positioned to the side of your subject. This enables it to cast the shadow at an angle from your product and give it a more three dimensional look.
Shadows are the dark areas where a light source is blocked by an object. Shadows change shape, intensity, and even color along with the angle, direction, and temperature of light.
What Should Photography Contracts Include? Copyright Ownership and Transfer of Use Rights. Payment Schedule. Cancellation Policy. Summary of What Each Side Will Deliver. Start Date of Photography Contract and Shoot Date (If Applicable) Full Contact Information and Names for Client and Your Business.
