To be included as an additional insured under a liability policy, a person or entity must have a business relationship with the policyholder (named insured). Here are some common business relationships that create a need for additional insured coverage: Landlord and tenant. General contractorand subcontractor.
A: Yes, theres an easy way and it starts with something called a Certificate of Insurance, or a COI for short.
Call your broker, explain to them what the minimum coverage amount is and that you need proof of insurance. If your policy already meets the requirements, then the broker will contact your carrier to secure the COI.
An additional insured extends liability insurance coverage beyond the named insured to include other individuals or groups. An additional insured endorsement protects the additional insured under the named insurers policy allowing them to file a claim if sued.
In an insurance policy, an additional insured refers to anyone other than the policyholder who is covered by an insurance policy. Coverage might be limited to a single event or it could last for the policys lifetime.
If the client is added as a named insured, the insurer may deny any claim against the policy. Being a named insured may make the owner liable for claims filed by third parties. This increased exposure may lead to third-party claims that exhaust the policy limits thus stripping away the clients protection.
A named insured is entitled to 100% of the benefits and coverage provided by the policy. An additional insured is someone who is not the owner of the policy but who, under certain circumstances, may be entitled to some of the benefits and a certain amount of coverage under the policy.
