Best Practices for Presenting Quotes in Press Releases Write Shorter, Punchier Quotes. When it comes to sound bites, one sentence is usually enough, two is okay, and three is too long, Ann recommends. Reduce the Number of Quotes. Humanize Your Quotes. Display Creativity in Your Quotes.
Quotes are a common element of a press release, designed to showcase the thought process, or impact, of your big news. But crafting the perfect quote can be daunting. You want your quote to convey so much the excitement of the news, the emotional impact of your news on your audiences, your strong opinion on a topic.
Embedding a quotation means that the quotation is included in a single sentence with many of your own words and commentary. The most sophisticated embedded quotations have commentary before and after the words you are quoting (see example #3).
Include the name of the person speaking in the sentence and surround their exact words in quotations marks. For example Former President George Bush said, Read my lips. No new taxes! Never change what someone said Doublecheck if youre not sure of the exact wording.
The standard elements of a press release: headline, dateline, lead, body, company info, media contact information. A specific audience that its targeted to and the news articles they read. Information on why your product is worth talking about and why anyone should be excited about it.
The quote can be embedded like this: John exhibits his true feelings for Sarah when she finds him waiting at her door with her favorite flowers and a sorrowful expression on his face (Doe 75). This quote would then be followed by more analysis of Johns feelings for Sarah.
Keep paragraphs relatively short, two to three sentences, and your overall length to one page. Include quotes from key spokespeople. Within the body of your release, include one to three quotes. People quoted may include a local leader, member, or outside validator (a prominent member of the community, for example).
Introduction: This is some form of lead-in statement that introduces the quote and provides context for it. The Quote: This is the direct quote from the source. It should be accurately represented and within quotation marks. Citation: This is where you cite the source of your quote, usually in parenthetical format.
