When a patent is cited, it signifies that the examiner was aware of the referenced patent but still deemed the applicants invention worthy of a patent grant. This can help with new patent applications, as the cited patent bolsters the presumption of validity for the granted patent.
Citation-sequence and citation-name format Author(s), inventors; patent holder, assignee. Title of patent. Country issuing the patent country code patent number. Publication date.
The first element of a patent citation in APA style is the inventors name. List each inventors last name followed by their initials without periods. If there are multiple inventors, separate them with commas and use an ampersand () before the final authors name.
A patent citation is any important document or research paper cited by a patent applicant, patent examiner, or third party that relates to the content of a patent application.
When filing the patent, the applicant often refers to already published patent documents on the state of the art. During the examination process with patent offices, additional published patent documents can be found. These published patent documents are referred as cited patent documents.
