A payee is the term used to describe the person or business that you are paying money to.
The name of the payee is included in the bill of exchange and it usually refers to a natural person or an entity such as a business, trust, or custodian.
Paper Checks For example, on your paycheck (or any other check you receive), you should see your name written on the check, because you are the payee. For example, if you write a check to pay rent, your landlord is the payee, so you write your landlords name (or the business name) on the check.
If you send Interac e-Transfers to a particular recipient frequently, you can add them to your Payee List. Select Add INTERAC e-Transfer Recipient from the Related Services menu. Enter the payees name, email address, the security question the payee will have to answer, and the answer to that security question.
Bank accounts held jointly between two parties may be titled with an and or an or between the account holders names. If the account is listed as an and account, then both/all parties must sign to access the funds.
In the Payee Name field, enter the name of the payee for identification. In the Payment Type field, select the specific network for payment. In the Account Number field, enter the payees account number. In the Account Name field, enter the payee name.
The account name doesnt match the payees name. Again, you should double-check the details and request another Confirmation of Payee check, otherwise your money could be sent to the wrong account. When its not possible to match a name, well let you know that the payment could be sent to the wrong account.
For joint accounts, you only need to use the full name of one of the account holders. For payments into a non-personal account, use the full business or organisation name and choose the account type as business.
