A rendering of an Ontario Line platform. Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have awarded a C$9 billion (US$6.76 billion) contract to the Connect 6ix team to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Ontario Line Rolling Stock, Systems, Operations and Maintenance (RSSOM) package.
The Ontario Line was announced by the Government of Ontario on April 10, 2019. As of November 2022, the estimated cost for the 15.6-kilometre (9.7 mi) line was CA$17 to $19 billion with an estimated completion in 2031. Originally, the cost was estimated at $10.9 billion with completion by 2027.
The Ontario Line will be a 15.6-kilometre rapid transit line between the Ontario Science Centre and Exhibition/Ontario Place in Toronto, serving 15 stations. This fixed-price contract for the project includes 5.5 billion CAD for capital costs and 0.5 billion CAD for financing and transaction costs.
The Ontario Line will be a 15.6-kilometre subway line that will make it faster and easier to travel within Toronto and beyond. The line will bring 15 new stations to the city and will run from Exhibition Place, through the heart of downtown, all the way to the Ontario Science Centre.
The new line will provide more than 40 connections to other subway, bus, streetcar, light-rail transit and regional rail services. When in service, the Ontario Line will be operated by Connect 6ix and owned by the Provincial transit agency Metrolinx.
The $9-billion contract was awarded to Connect 6ix for the RSSOM component of the Ontario Line and includes $2.3 billion for capital costs and $6.7 billion for short-term construction financing and transaction costs, train costs and 30-year operations and maintenance, lifecycle and long-term financing.
The new line will provide more than 40 connections to other subway, bus, streetcar, light-rail transit and regional rail services. When in service, the Ontario Line will be operated by Connect 6ix and owned by the Provincial transit agency Metrolinx.
As part of the agreement with the city, the province has committed to covering all capital costs for the Ontario Line, the Scarborough Subway Extension, the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, and the Yonge North expansion.
